Proof of vaccination:

You will be required to show your COVID-19 vaccinations to enter into the country as fully vaccinated.  You will be able to do this using the NHS COVID app.

Test pre-travel/recovery certificate: Not required
On arrival:

On arrival into the airport, there will be thermal screening in place for all arrivals to check for signs of COVID-19.

You will be required to show your proof of vaccination at check in and on arrival.  You must have had your final dose of a vaccine at least 14 days and no more than 270 days before you arrive.

Children under 12 do not need to test or be fully vaccinated to travel.

Children aged 12-17 should either be fully vaccinated, or follow the rules for unvaccinated travellers.

You will need to show you QR code received from the Madeira safe form at both check in and on arrival.

Form pre-travel:

A Traveller Health Declaration form will need to be completed before travel.  Please check on the link below to see when you are able to complete the form needed for your destination.  You may need to either complete this form electronically, or print out and take with you to show at the airport of departure and arrival. It is important that you check the form as early as you can for time frames as this may need to be completed up to 7 days before travel, or as little as 24 hours before travel.

RETURN REQUIREMENTS FOR VACCINATED VISITORS
At present, this destination has no specific return requirements related to Covid-19 (Coronavirus). Please check the latest Foreign Office Advice (see link below) for other visa or return requirements.

Local regulations:

You should maintain social distancing of at least 2 metres where you can.  Face masks should be worn in all public spaces indoors and outdoors including roads and streets.  anyone under 10 is exempt.

Shops are generally open until 9pm on weekdays and 1pm on weekends.  You may find you have to queue due to social distancing measures.

Restaurants and cafes are open until 1030pm.  You are able to eat both indoors and outdoors, although capacities may be restricted so it is advisable to book.

You will need to show a vaccination certificate, or a negative antigen test, renewable weekly to access cinemas bars, nightclubs, restaurants, gyms and beauty salons.  You will also need to show proof if entering a supermarket, grocery store or shopping centre and if travelling on public transport.

There is no exemption for the use of face coverings if you have a medical lanyard.  If you are medically exempt in the UK from wearing a face covering, please carry with you a doctor's note stating that you are exempt.

If you test positive while in resort

If you test positive for COVID-19, you may need to stay where you are until you test negative. You may also need to seek treatment there.

Plan ahead and make sure you:

  • can access money
  • understand what your insurance will cover
  • can make arrangements to extend your stay and be away for longer than planned

You must ensure you complete the mandatory health survey on the digital platform madeirasafe.com between 48 and 24 hours prior to boarding your flight. 

After completion of the form, you will receive a notification via email with the access code for the platform.  You will then find in the Madeirasafe website your QR code which will need to be presented at the airport on arrival.  This must be completed by each passenger except for anyone under the age of 12.

On arrival into the airport, there will be thermal screening in place for all arrivals to check for signs of COVID-19
